Board Tomorrow? Come to I’m Board IV

imboard3

So this is my #2 Pencil Skateboard Deck from last years IM BOARD 3 show, which I gotta say was the best show yet and is gonna be hard to beat this year. Full Skate Demo, Break Dance Crews, and Rad Skate decks. I would love to show you my submission for this year’s show which is tomorrow during Art Walk, but my pics just wouldn’t do it justice so your gonna have to come see for yourself. I will tell you however, that it is somewhat along the same lines as the #2 Pencil from last year in that its not about the design on the deck but using the decks shape to make something else. Having designed decks for Flatline Skateboards for 7 years I’ve done my fair share of graphics on the board printing, and this is a little more challenging for me and a great opportunity for humor, which I love.

Check out eyeswideawake.com/im-board for more info on the show. And as always, Props To Chad!!!

If Your Not First your Last! Poster Show Recap

AIGA Summertime Poster ShowHere is the real pic of how I felt about that guys Poster!

Reese Bobby said it best… if your not first your last! haha. Well that’s just stupid son, you can be second, third, fourth, hell you can even be fifth! I Just wanna say thank you to everyone who voted my poster #1 at the show, I didn’t even know it was gonna be a contest? But in all seriousness, had varick not done three awesome posters and split his own votes into two, we all know he would have took the prize… and then gracefully declined just like he did with his second and third place. We really couldn’t have a greater guy running the show these days.

Props to everyone who mad the show happen (PCarter, SeanT, KarenK, AigaJax, Varick, Debo, MrMarchy), in great success I might add. There was so much good work in there It was truly an honor have been a part of it. Read more about the show here blog.aigajacksonville.org

AIGA Summertime Poster – Tim Armstrong

AIGA Summertime Poster

Here’s my version two of my AIGA SUMMERTIME poster for the show this weekend at the Jacksonville Landing. I say version two because my first attempt was a stenciled type poster that didn’t go exactly as planned and then I totally ruined it trying to fix it so this is what I can up with the day before the poster was due. I have been dying to start doing Illustrations of old cars that I love and tying it into some new vector style with a little bit of that old “owners manual” style of design.

63 Impala63 Impala

I chose this song and car style because this summer my friend Ryan @autoline let me take this Fire Red 63 Imapala with chrome spoke daytons for the weekend to the Turkey Rod Run in the Daytona Speedway and It pretty much made my summer. I don’t think I have ever been that excited to drive a car. I got up a 4 am just so I could drive it while the sun was coming up. @thecrobar and I were laid up in that thing like a couple of gangsters all weekend. The looks you get driving that thing around are pretty awesome and I almost bought it, but I would still rather have something with a little more muscle look than gangster. And I chose the song because thats the cd I listened to the whole time driving it. Tim Armstrong’s solo album “A Poets Life” is an awesome dub style cd, check it out if you have a chance or watch the video below and you’ll see the car inspiration. I also like that the song title was “Wake Up” because the people need to realize the 63′ is just as rad as a 64′.

Also, props to Jax AIGA | Patrick Carter | Thought & Theory for putting together this awesome event!

BEARDS & BRUSHES Artshow at BOGDA

Major Props to The Jacksonville Beard smith society for putting on this epic BEARDS & BRUSHES artshow last weekend at BOGDA Gallery. I was super bummed that I couldn’t be there the enjoy all the fun that it looked like everyone had and that I didn’t actually have the time to screen print my piece but oh well, I know there will be a next time. JaxBeard.com has been doing some really cool stuff around town lately in collaboration with artist and the outcomes have been awesome! The “Support The Movement” Jaguar Campaign went better than they could have hoped for with the Team actually picking up the design and all of the National Beard Competition Fund Raising has definitely put Jacksonville’s Facial hair on the Map! Way to go guys and keep it up!

Lightboxing Commentary @refreshjax

Crobar and I got asked to do some color commentary at last Thursdays AIGA/REFRESHJAX Lightboxing event presented by Veer for the bout of our good friends Sean “Dog N Pony Puch” Tucker & Russel “The Love Muscle” Quadros, And I gotta say It was a blast! It was really funny cause Crobar knows nothing about design and I Pretend to be an expert, haha. It was a close match 30/29 in favor Russell but I gotta give these boys props, it was tough. To make a decent design in under a hour while everyone watches and The Crobar and I heckle the shit out of you, is no easy feat. We were called in to do commentary but we ended up more like the clowns at the fair dunk tank, but It was fun and entertaining to say the least. Im Ready for round 2, Who will step into the thunderdome next?

Check out the posts and images on our friends places!
